Example 1
To combine multiple .pdf files in a directory:

To combine multiple .pdf files in a directory without listing each one, use wildcards (*):

With pdftk you can even merge certain pages from within multiple .pdf files into one new document. Just enter following command:

In this case, “A” and “B” are used as “handles” for the names of your documents. You can use as many as you need. A1-7, B1-5 A8 are page numbers.

 

Example 4
To encrypt your new .pdf file:

(Encrypt a PDF using 128-Bit Strength (the Default) and Withhold All Permissions (the Default)

Same as Above, except password is required for user to open the .pdf file

Remark:
If you use LibreOffice and export a document as .pdf file
there’s the option to set a password:

File -> Export as PDF
