Video editing refers to the process of manipulating video images.  The process includes cutting segments (trimming), re-sequencing clips, and adding transitions and other Special Effects.  Video editing software is available for personal computers as well as workstations.

How to add/embed “Background Music” to video

Install mencoder on Linux Mint 17
On terminal run
$ apt-get install mencoder

install_mencoder_1On keyboard type “Y” and hit “Enter”

Drag the video file and music file on Desktop
video file – video.flv(or .mpg/.mp4 format)
music file – music.mp3
On terminal run;
$ cd Desktop
$ mencoder video.mp4 -o video_w_music.mp4 -ovc copy -oac copy -audiofile music.mp3



MEncoder is a free command line video decoding, encoding and filtering tool released under the GNU General Public License.  It is a sibling of MPlayer, and can convert all the formats that MPlayer understands into a variety of compressed and uncompressed formats using different codecs.


Convert .flv file to .mp3 file

On terminal run;

  • $ avconv -i filename.flv filename.mp3 



AVconv is the video and audio converter from Libav (which is packaged in Ubuntu as libav-tools).  With AVConv, converting video files is automatic and invisible.  It is specially designed for mobile applications.
